What is Family Home Evening and FHEnight.com?

Since 1915, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are encouraged to hold a weekly family night. In October 1970, the Church officially designated Monday night as family night and supports the program by holding no other activities on this night. The idea of weekly family night is sound advice for families of all faiths. Here are some of the blessings promised by LDS church leaders.

“We advise and urge the inauguration of a home evening throughout the church, at which time fathers and mothers may gather their boys and girls about them in the home and teach them the word of the Lord…If the Saints obey this counsel, we promise that great blessings will result. Love at home and obedience to parents will increase. Faith will be developed in the hearts of the youth of Israel, and they will gain power to combat the evil influences and temptations which beset them.” – President Joseph F. Smith

We also encourage you to review the Family Home Evening Resource book from LDS.org.

The Family Home Evening Resource Book has two major goals: to build family unity and to teach gospel principles…Unlike former family home evening manuals, this book gives ideas and activities that can be used without repetition by your family for many years. Use this book to create your own lessons most of the time, meeting your own family’s needs. Each section of this book can help you if you will use it for its intended purpose.
