I am a Child of God

I am a Child of God

As a Child of God, this time on earth is to prepare to meet God again.

This lesson is for everyone, but will also help young women complete their Personal Progress requirements.

What are some of the divine qualities of a daughter of God? Read “The Family: A Proclamation to the World“, 2 Peter 1, Alma 7:23–24, and Doctrine and Covenants 121:45. In your own words, list the divine qualities discussed in your reading. Think about how you can discover and develop each of these qualities. Record your ideas in your journal. – Personal Progress, Divine Nature Experience #1

Lesson:

There are some common questions that can run through our minds:

  • Who am I?
  • Where did I come from?
  • Why am I here?
  • What am I supposed to do with my life?

When we recognize our true identity as a child of God, the scriptures can offer powerful answers through study and prayer.

Who am I?

We are spirit children of our Heavenly Father. He made us in His own image. We are like Him.

Psalms 82: 6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

Where did I come from?

We lived in Heaven with heavenly parents and they loved us.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Why am I here?

As spirits we decided to follow Jesus Christ’s plan to come down to earth to a Family and receive a body. This plan is the plan of salvation.  Our Heavenly Father wants us to experience life here on earth so we can be like Him. We have the ability to choose all things pertaining to our lives. We get to choose good and bad. Through Jesus Christ’s atonement we have the opportunity to repent of wrong choices. At the time of our final judgment we get to live with our Heavenly Father again if we have endured to the end and chose to follow this plan.

Moses 1:39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

What am I supposed to do with my life?

Our lives have purpose. We are here to make good choices that will bring us back to our Heavenly Home.

Abraham 3:24-26 …and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell; And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them; And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon….they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.
